160ha arable land is covered in grazing pastures along the Klein River which runs through the length of the farm. 35ha is under irrigation, with the balance being dryland pastures providing natural grazing for the 300 Jersey cows.The modern, well equipped, 40 point milking parlor can accommodate milking up to 600 cows. The cheese factory specializes in the production of white mold cheeses such as Brie and Camembert which is sold in the cheese shop on the farm, on-line, as well as to selected retailers.Excess milk is sold to a well known dairy company. Whey (waste from cheesemaking) is fed to the calves and pigs and manure is recycled for fertilizer.Dwellings on the farm consist of a beautiful 3 bedroom (en-suite) manor house, 2 bedroom managers house and 5 self-catering cottages, providing additional income from tourism. One of the cottages, built from stone, dates back to 1772 when it served as a toll house on the old wagon route from the coast to the interior.The farm is well equipped with infrastructure such as barns, sheds, cold room, butchery, milking parlor, cheese factory, milk storage tanks and staff housing.
About the Farm
The farm is blessed with an abundance of water with registered water rights of 200 000m³ river water, 4 holding dams, 5 boreholes and a natural fountain supplying drinking water. One of the dams is utilized for the growth of waterblommetjies (Aponogeton distachyos flowers), an unique South African delicacy.Electricity is supplied by Eskom with 3 X 100 KWA power points. The farm is fully fenced with lockable access gates.Access to the farm is from a tar road with amenities such as shops, schools, etc. a mere 22km away.
